Hercules
Welcome to Hercules Class at Langley Fitzurse School. You will find us in the newer part of the school building. We are a mixed reception/ year 1 class and are committed to giving children the best possible start to their education.
We have a balanced approach to teaching and learning, combining motivating adult led activities and phonics sessions with early years best practice – learning through play, enabling environments and the outdoors. The balance shifts as the children move into year one as they engage with the National Curriculum, however our year one children still have daily opportunities to engage in learning through continuous provision. Our provision is developmentally appropriate, and the children are taught the skills they need throughout, building on previous learning to ensure progression.
We have wonderful outdoor learning area with a wide range of resources including a water play area, sandpit, mud kitchen and the adventure kingdom. We also have our own set of balance bikes for the children to learn to ride on. We regularly adventure out of school, for example, to observe the changes in natural world.
Below, you will find the topics we will be covering this school year:
- Term 1 – Space
- Term 2 – Superheroes
- Term 3 – Pirates / Lights in the sea
- Term 4 – Jungle Animals
- Term 5 – Grow me a story, plants and fairytales
- Term 6 – Dinosaurs
To enhance our learning experiences, we have planned school trips to ‘We The Curious’ (Term 1), Cotswold Wildlife Park (Term 4) and Oxford Museum (Term 6).
The Hercules Team are always amazed by all of the children’s personal successes during their first years of school. We love to see them develop into happy, busy and engaged children, who have developed a real pride and passion for learning!
