💻 Computing at Langley Fitzurse: Empowering Pupils Through Technology

At Langley Fitzurse, we believe children should be masters of technology. Technology is everywhere, and we want our pupils to grow up knowing how to use it positively, responsibly, and safely.

🌟 Our Vision

  • Pupils are encouraged to be creators, not just consumers.
  • Our curriculum includes Computer Science, Information Technology, and Digital Literacy.
  • We teach that there is always a choice in how technology is used.
  • As a school, we model positive use of technology, including social media.

🧠 How We Teach Computing

We use proven teaching methods to help children learn effectively:

  • Pupils build knowledge through hands-on projects and creative exploration.
  • Strategies like PRIMM guide children from understanding to invention.
  • Collaboration is key—children work in pairs and groups to solve problems.
  • We encourage thinking skills like predicting, debugging, and reflecting.
  • Lessons are designed to be relevant and purposeful, connecting to real life.

🛠️ Skills Progression

From Year 1 to Year 6, pupils develop skills in:

  • Online safety and understanding digital risks
  • Creating media like drawings, videos, websites, and 3D models
  • Programming using tools like Scratch and micro:bit
  • Handling data through pictograms, databases, and spreadsheets
  • Understanding networks and systems, including how the internet works

By Upper Key Stage 2, pupils are expected to be confident and independent, choosing the best tools to express their ideas and solve challenges.

🛡️ E-Safety First

Online safety is a top priority. Every year group has regular sessions covering:

  • Keeping personal information private
  • Recognising online risks
  • Creating strong passwords
  • Understanding fake news and bias
